This project started as a series created for The 100 Day Project in 2019.
As a child I devoured books about whales and was especially charmed by the illustrations. I committed to a list of 100 whale based subjects and illustrated them. Each illustration was drawn on paper, inked by hand, and then scanned into Photoshop to get colored.
This ultimately evolved into what my ideal book about whales would look like. It would have the obvious stuff, like the different species of whales, dolphins and porpoises, but it would also have curious things about whales. There would be internal structures, behaviors, the evolution of whales, life cycles, a section on Yankee Whaling, and more (including an appearance by Herman Melville).
My intention is to compile these illustrations into a small, hardbound book with some text accompanying each illustration.
